Show Red Cross Reviews Training Course Service (Editor's Note: The following article ar-ticle is one in a series of articles to be published during the month of March, National Red Cross Month, dealing with the various Red Cross programs). "The Red Cross works constantly con-stantly to reduce accidents and help the American people toward to-ward greater self-sufficiency. Its training programs, first aid, home care of the sick, mother and baby care and many swim- ming courses all help us take better care of ourselves and our families," Loran Hlrschl, chairman chair-man of the Iron County Red Cross chapter, stated. The aim of first aid instruction instruc-tion Is to prevent accidents and reduce the effects of accidents. In Iron County alone a total of 60 people have completed Red Cross first aid classes under the direction of McRay Cloward. The Red Cross course, "Home Care of the Sick," emphasizes ways to assist doctors and nurses In caring for the ill at home and teaches how to Improvise slck-i room equipment and ways of re-j llevlng the tedium of Illness fori the home patient. The course, "Mother and Baby Care," helps prospective mother learn the knowhow of preparing for the baby and giving proper care after birth. Both of these courses have been carried out in the Iron County Chapter of the Red Cross under the direction of Ella Holy, oak in Cedar City and Edna Hatch In Parowan. Yearly these two conduct these classes for approximately ap-proximately 155 people. In the state of Utah last year, 9028 persona took Red Cross Wa-ten Wa-ten Safety courses; 8798 persons learned first aid skills and 3025 homerrakers took the home courses. "Red Cross chapters through-out through-out southern Utah are expanding, expand-ing, these programs this year in order to provide the training needed by Civil Defense volun-teers volun-teers and to offset, in some communities, com-munities, the shortage of doe-tors, doe-tors, nur?es. and medical facili-ties,' facili-ties,' Hlrschl pointed out.
