Show T-BIrds Show Strong In Dixie Invitational College of Southern Utah Thun-derbird Thun-derbird basketball squad came through with flying colors this past week placing third in the firr annual Dixie Invitational Tournament held at St. George. Winner of the tourney was Mt. San Antonio of California with a slim 51 to 49 come from be-hind be-hind victory over Ricks. CSU defeated Snow College for third place by a score of 77 to 74. Dixie won the consolation title defeating Eastern Eas-tern Arizona by a score of 93 to 71 in the final round. The most valuable val-uable player in the tourney was Charles C a 1 1 o . way of Mt. SAC. Glen Gray of the Gray CSU Thunderbirds was also named nam-ed to the tournament all-star team. I In the opening round of play CSU edged out Palo Verde Col- lege by the slim margin of 68 to I 67 in one of the tourney's most i exciting games. Gray led the 1 scoring with 23 points with Larry Lar-ry Dehlin tanking 19. In second round action the CSU quintet fell to a strong Ricks Viking team 70 to 64. LaMar Pugh was high for CSU with 22, Dehlin hit for 16, Gray scored 15 and Marian Roper was also in the double figures with 10. Gray also led the Thunderbirds in the fira! night with 28 points. Pugh came up with 25 and Dehlin Deh-lin hit for 17 to pace the squad to the third place win over the Snow Badgers 77 to 74. In the three nights of action Gray was the top CSU scorer with a total of 66 points, a 22 per game average for the tournament. tourna-ment.
