Show WHAT DOES THE BIBLE TEACH THE LORD'S SUPPER By BOB REYNOLDS As pointed out in prior articles, for one to worship God acceptably, he must worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). In our last article we studied concerning worshipping wor-shipping God in spirit. We will now begin a study of the different items of worship that are incorporated in the second condition of acceptable worship worship "in truth." The first item of worship we will notice is the Lord's Supper. Before you continue this article, please turn in your Bible and read the following passages of Scripture: Matthew 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:19-20; 1 Corinthians Corin-thians 11:23-30 Now we will ask the first of a series of questions about the Lord's Supper. The first one is: by what names is the Lord's Supper Called? Three expressions are used in the Scriptures with respect re-spect to this memorable feast. As already suggested, it is called the "Lord's Supper" (1 Cor. 11:20). It is appropriately appropriate-ly so called because it was inaugurated by Jesus and is partaken par-taken in memory of Him. In 1 Corinthians 10:16 il is called "communion" of the body and blood of Christ because in partaking of it Christians participate with prt with jesus in His sufferings. It is spoken of as the "breaking "break-ing of bread" in Acts 2:42 and Acts 20: '. The Lord's Supper is sometimes called the 'Eucharist," 'Euchar-ist," which means "Giving of thanks." However, this expression ex-pression is not applied by the inspired writers to the Lord's Supper and cannot be so used with Scriptural authority. au-thority. It is also designated, by many, as the "Sacrament." "Sacra-ment." But here again we have no mention of the word in the Bible as a designation of the Lord's Supper. j SCHEDULE OF SERVICES 10 a. m.
