Show All-stars Begin Practice For August Tourney The Cedar City Pony League all-stars began practice sessions this week In preparation for the Region 7 tournament to be held in Cedar City on Aug. 7, 8 and 9 and possibly the 10th. An eight team tournament, its participants will represent the three states of Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. 'At" a""reglonal meeting held tn Provo Monday night the touTTRr--ment was upped to Aug. 7 to allow al-low for a possible fourth day of play in the double-elimination event. On the opening date each of the eight teams will play two games for a total of eight. Cedar City as tournament host will automatically au-tomatically enter the tournament tourna-ment with all others having to participate in a previous playoff play-off to determine entry int- the regional tournament. A single team will represent J Idaho and Wyoming. Two teams i will be entered from the area around Spanish Fork. Grantsvllle and Heber City. One team will be entered from Provo, one from Carbon County and the second place teams in these two areas will play-off to determine the eighth tournament entry. Winner of the Cedar City tour-jiament tour-jiament will be entered in the sectional tournament to be held at Watsonvllle, Calif. In preparation for the regional event the Pony League all-stars will play a number of practice games. First on the docket will be a game against 15-year-olds who graduated from the program last year. This game will be held Saturday afternoon. On July 24 a tentative game has been scheduled with a team from Mllford and on July 27 Rich field will field a team againsi the Gcdar City crew. On Aug. 1 the team will travel to Richfield to return the game and on Aug. 3 a tentative game has been slated slat-ed with a Pony League team from Salt Lake City. The public is cordially invited to attend these games. All donat- ed proceeds will be used to help stage the regional tournament. |
