Show Power Produces To Lead Pony Leaguers TEAM STANDINGS Power 5 1 .834 Construction 4 2 .667 Parks 3 3 .500 Arden 0 fc .000 The Pony League has virtually been set on fire this past week with Kenneth Munford of the Southern Utah Power crew supplying sup-plying the fuel. Phenomenally he haa burst into the top hitters of the league within a week moving into the number four spot and In the last two contests con-tests his team has blasted out three home runs to take the league lead in that department temporarily and is now in a tie for this honor. Muhf6rd'iwicked'6aTwas very instrumental this week in keeping keep-ing Power in the number one spot in the second half of play. His two runs-batted-ln in a 2 to I win over Utah Parks stretched his team's lead to one full game over Construction. Parks, first-half first-half winners, in addition to losing los-ing to Power by a score of 2 to 1, dropped a 4 to 3 game to Construction earlier in the week and dropped to third place. Five games have been played during the week with Arden Dairy Dai-ry playing three of the contests once against each of the other teams. The five includes a double-header by Arden against Parks and Power Saturday to make up postponed games. Friday evening the Utah Construction Con-struction crew pushed over two runs in the bottom half of the seventh and final Inning to squeeze out a 4 to 3 win over Utah Parks. Lory Misel was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits to the Parks and Leigh Rosenberg, Ro-senberg, in his losing effort, hold Pnm'Hirtlnn tn twn hits. both off the bat of Misel. Light errors on the part of the Parks were costly, with three of the er-1 rors being committed In the fateful seventh frame. Saturday Arden dropped two games in its double-header make up series. In the opener it was defeated by Parks by a score of 12 to 2. Parks picked up a total of 14 hits off Steve Cartoon Ca-rtoon on the mound for Arden. Sam Chamberlain was the winning win-ning pitcher, allowing eight hits. In the second contest Southern Utah Power collected six hits and-seven and-seven runs to defeat the Dairymen Dairy-men by a score of 7 to 2. Calvin Hair was the winning pitcher. Gary Anderson was on the mound for Arden. Munford was the big gun in this game. He blasted out two home runs plus a single and was credited with four runs batted in for the game. His first homer came in the second sec-ond inning with one man on base and his second was in the third, also with one man on. Monday evening it was again the bat of Munford that spelled victory for Power, Glen Pryor of Parks doubled fo score Chamberlain Cham-berlain in the top of the second frame to put Parks on lead 1 to 0. Munford, first man up in the bottom half of the Inning tied it all up with a homer over the center field fence. Kent Smith, the winning pitcher for the game, singled in the sixth inning and Munford again came through with a single to push In the winning run. Power collected col-lected four hits and Parks three in Infi contest. Tuesday Utah Construction remained re-mained in the race by defeating Arden 10 to 5. Arden took a 3 to 0 lead in the first two innings of play and at the end of four frames were still leading. Steve Cahoon blasted out a homer in the fourth Inning to get the initial score for his team. Both teams collected six hits but 10 errors by Arden spelled the difference .Gale Roberts was the winning pitcher and Cahoon was I charged with the loss. |
