Show FOREST SERVICE AND NATIONAL PARKS Season Pass Program Adopted For Federal Recreation Areas The new $7 reereationconserv-, ation auto bumper sticker tin- j nounced last week by Secretaries i Freeman and Udall will admit j visitors to designated National Forest recreation areas in the In. termountain Region starting In 1965, according to Floyd Iver- j son, Regional Forester. - The sticker will entitle the driver of a noncommercial auto, and all his passengers to admission admis-sion to most federal recreation ' areas for the year beginning . April 1. This includes the National Nation-al Forests, National Parks, and ' other federal recreation areas. The Intermountain Region of the Forest Service is studying the practicality of designating some! 600 developed areas for coverage , under the sticker. The list of areas selected will be ready early j in April and will include Nation-1 al Forest camp and picnic grounds where fees were collected collect-ed last year. Admission to designated areas may be gain d through use of the recreation conservation auto sticker or through an alternative single entry fee. The sticker entitles en-titles the holder and all other occupants oc-cupants to admission. The alternate alter-nate single entry fee will be available for all persons 16 years of age or older if they do not wisii iu purchase ihe auto stick- 1 er. Receipts from the sale of stick-ers stick-ers and other fees collected will go into the Lam' . nd Water Con servation Fund established by j the Act of Congress last year ! which provided for the sticker and other fees. The Fund Is to be used, subject to Congressional appropriation, to assist v.e various var-ious states, counties, and .nunicl-I .nunicl-I palities in planning, acquiring, and developing new outdoor recreation re-creation areas and to acquire additional ad-ditional federal recreation areas. The recreation conservation auto stickers can be purchased from field offices of federal agencies administering recreation areas. There is no limit to the number of times it may be used, but the length of stay will be determined by local rules. Purchase of the sticker Is optional. op-tional. In the National Forests the single visit fee per person will be .25, .50, .75 or $1 daily depending upon the facilities and services made available by the government. Under some circumstances in addition to the sticker or en trance fee, there may be supplemental supple-mental charges for special facilities, facili-ties, such as boat launching, above -the- ordinary improvements improve-ments at trailer and camp sites, or for special services such as reservations for large groups. These supplemental fees will be payable each time the facllitles or services are used, ine rates will be set in accordance with those comparable for the use of similar privately owned facilities and services and other consider- ations. The 19 65 recreatlonconserva-tion recreatlonconserva-tion stickers will go on sale shortly for use as an annual permit per-mit for access to federal recreation recrea-tion areas and as an alternative to purchasing single entranc" permits. The three-Inch sticker will be printed in green on white paper. It will bear the words "Outdoor Recreation for America" and "Land and Water Conservation Fund." |
