Show Iron County School Board OKs Plans For New High School. Hires Teachers Preliminary plans for the proposed pro-posed r.ew Cedar City High School were approved by the Iron County Board of Education Monday, sitting in regular session. ses-sion. Plans, prepared by the architect archi-tect firm of Gardner and Ras-mussen Ras-mussen of Cedar City, were presented pre-sented to the board last week for consideration, and a study has been made by board members mem-bers during the week prior to the acceptance Monday. Plans call for two separate buildings. The first is the academic aca-demic building which also includes in-cludes the auditorium. The second se-cond is the gymnasium facilities and physical education plant. Also included in this building will be lunch room fallities. Complete details of the building build-ing and the major floor planning plan-ning are shown and explained in an accompanying article. With the approval of the preliminary pre-liminary plans, the School Board also extended authorization for the calling of bids for ground work Including, cuts, leveling and fills preparatory to the actual ac-tual construction of the building. As soon as the architects can complete the ground plans and specifications, this bid will be let, according to Howard Dalley, clerk. Other action of the board at the session included: Accepting bid by Louis Stewart Ste-wart for the removal of the Flannigan Home on 200 West Street for materials and brick. A second bid was also received from Arthur Dustin for materials mater-ials plus $100. Authorized purchasing of materials to set up test unit for Educational Channel No. 7 from Salt Lake City. It was estimated that $150 would be needed to conduct tests on reception re-ception of the special channel near Beaver. Elvln Webster was authorized to conduct the test. It is hoped by the board that efforts of the state to "boost" the channel throughout the state might be assisted by these tests. Authorized calling for bids for darkening drapes for the multi-purpose room at the Parowan Paro-wan Elementary. Specifications are to be drawn up by the architect. archi-tect. Accepted bid by Continental Continen-tal Oil Company for the supplying supply-ing of gasoline for the school bus program in the Escalante Valley. Bid was for 23.65 cents per gallon including state tax. The school district is exempt from the four cent federal tax. A second bid was received from Truston Hart for 28.9 cents per gallon. Installation of storage tanks and a pump will be made to facilitate handling the gas. Approved teacher list for the 1961-62 school year.
