Show Serving Their Community While the Little League district baseball tournament is in progress and the Pony League tournament has just ended, it would be well to call attention to generous public pub-lic service, particularly in the field of youth activities, that is being carried on by a large group of people of this community. com-munity. The Little League and Pony League programs, together togeth-er with the minor league activities, provide good, clean recreational activities for a large number of boys at an age when supervised activity is extremely important. Not only does it provide wholesome activity but it also provides pro-vides an important incentive and stimulus for the youngsters young-sters to devote themselves to group activity and consistent t?ffort to improve their abilities, which means much in holding the interest of large numbers of boys and keeping them from expending their energy in less wholesome endeavor. en-deavor. Conducting such a program as has been under way here during the past few years requires the help of many people, and it is gratifying to see so many busy men devoting de-voting time to helping the "kids" with their activities. A large number of men and some women have devoted long hours of time to assist with the program and they certainly are entitled to .a lot of credit for giving so generously gen-erously of their free time. Few people realize how many individuals are involved and are donating their time. Among these are men who handle the organization problems, prob-lems, managers and coaches of teams, umpires who are on hand each evening to handle the games, score keepers and so on. All of these people are busy with their own affairs, af-fairs, but have been willing to take time out to help provide pro-vide wholesome recreation for young boys. They are entitled en-titled to a lot of credit and deserve a "pat on the back" from everyone. 0 |
