Show School Bands Prepare For Music Festival The Cedar City high school band and orchestra and junior high school band have been working for some tine on contest con-test numbers for the annual Region Re-gion Six Music Festival, and this week the two band organizations started marching drills in preparation prep-aration for the contests. The annual festival will be held in Beaver this year, on Saturday, Sat-urday, April 19. The two bands and the orchestra, orches-tra, all under the direction of A. B. Larson, will participate in the playing contests at the festival, and both bands will participate in the marching maneuvers. It has been necessary this year to divide the junior high school band into two sections because of the fact that too many students stu-dents were interested in participating. partici-pating. Had they all been held in one band it would have been an organization of 110 members, too large to work effectively. One section is composed of the younger band members, and this group will not participate in the contests this year. It is also necessary to select a new drum major for the junior high school band this year, and Mr. Larson this week is conducting conduct-ing a contest to select the band leader. Six students, five girls and one boy, are competing for the position, including Yvonne Skillman, Margene Isom, Renee Gentry, Sarah Jensen, Jackie Winterrose and Gerald Nelson. The drum major will be selected select-ed early next week in order that the winner can devote more time to working with the band before contest time. Janet Wasden, drum major last year, is in the high school this year. Geraldme Rollo is drum major ma-jor of the high school band. |
