Show Bronco Trackmen Work Out in Preparation For First Track Meet at St. George April 1 1 More than 30 candidates for positions on the track and field team at the Branch Agricultural Agricultur-al college have been working out at the Bronco school each night since weather conditions have permitted. Coach Dave Gates is drilling the men as hard as possible in order to round out a team for competition In five meets to be held this spring. The Broncos will get their first taste of competition . on Friday, 1 April 11, when they travel to St. George for a dual meet with their traditional rivals, the Rebels of Dixie college. The week following, Friday, April 18, the annual class meet will be held in the Bronco stadium. stad-ium. "On Saturday, April 26, the Broncos will participate in the Brigham Young University invitational invi-tational track and field meet at Provo. Following this, B A C will entertain the Dixie Rebels in a return dual meet on the Cedar City campus, the meet having bren scheduled for May 1. The final event of the season will be the Intermountain Collegiate Col-legiate Athletic Conference meet, to be held at Westminster college In Salt Lake City on Saturday, May 10. Coach Gates will have to build almost a complete new team this year, most of the members of last year's ICAC championship team having been lost to the school last spring by graduation. Only a few members of last years squad are back this year, including such performers as Hardy Phelps, sprints; Hal Williams, Wil-liams, pole vault and hurdles; Lynn Esplin, 880 yard run and broad jump; Bruce Jensen, discus, dis-cus, and Jimmy Neilson, shot put. Among the new men who are showing promise are A. J. Poul-son Poul-son of Richfield, sprints, and 'Stan Mackay of Murray, hurdles j and pole vault. |
