Show Cedar High Senior Awarded $300 4-H Scholarship 1.1 ' c Jil Alvin Cox, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cox of Cedar City, has been named as one of five Utah 4-H youths to receive college scholarships scholar-ships to be awarded by the Standard Oil Company of California, Cali-fornia, according to an announcement an-nouncement made Monday by David Sharp, state 411 supervisor. super-visor. Cox, a senior at the Cedar City high school, will receive a $300 scholarship from the oil company, com-pany, the second highest of the five given in the state this year. Cox has devoted his efforts in the past six years to livestock projects under the 4-H and Future Fu-ture Farmer programs and has made an outstanding record in his efforts along this line. He began his activities with five head of sheep in 1946, and in addition to increasing his flock to 75 head at the present time, he has also made definite progress pro-gress in his breeding, feeding and fitting activities, as evidenced evidenc-ed by his success in livestock shows of the state. He has also gained considerable consider-able recognition in the field of livestock judging. He was a member of the Cedar City high school team that won state hon ors in livestock judging in 1950, and represented the state in the l national contest at Denver that : year. The $300 scholarship is to be ' used in continuing his studies in the agricultural and livestock field. |
