Show $1,415,000 Building Program Set Up by County School Board The Board of Education of the Iron County School District, faced with a serious problem of adequately ade-quately housing the school children child-ren of the county, has formulated a building program, that it is estimated es-timated would cost $1,415,000. The program, outlined at the request re-quest of the state educational leaders, includes building needs that will be required in the next four or five years. However, the major portion of the buildings and improvements outlined are really badly needed at the pre- ' sent time. The most urgently needed buildings build-ings in the system are elementary element-ary school buildings in Cedar City and Beryl. One of the buildings build-ings at Cedar City and the one at Beryl, should be ready for use not later than the opening of the school In September 1919. A tremendous Increase in school population in the Beryl arpa has created a urgent need for a sizeable school building in that area. It is expected that by next year there will be at least one hundred children of elementary ele-mentary age in the area. It would be necessary to provide a building with at least three classrooms, a playroom and a lunch kitchen, and also to provide pro-vide a teacher's home at Beryl, and the Board estimates the cost would be approximately $100,000. To meet the needs in Cedar City it has been decided that three elementary buildings must be built in various parts of the city, over a period of a few years, and the present buildings then used for Junior high and high school purposes. Two of these buildings would each include 12 classrooms for grades from one to six, and one klndregarten unit. It is imperative that one of these be ready for use by the opening open-ing of school In 1919. The estimated esti-mated cost of each of these is $350,000. A third elementary building for Cedar City, would include six classrooms, and a kindergarten unit. It would cost approximately approximate-ly $275,000, and would be so planned that six more classrooms could be added later. Improvements and repairs at the Cedar high school and Junior high, and remodeling at the elementary ele-mentary building to utilize for secondary education purposes would cost approximately $110.-000. $110.-000. Of this amount $50,000 would be used to provide a new auto mechanic shop for the high school. The remaining $60,000 would go for the following items: Junior high school: fireproof stairs, new lights, add wash basins, ba-sins, increase shop storage, enlarge en-large shop and provide paint and finish room, and remodel to provide student activity room. Elementary El-ementary building: Remodel old building for secondary use, re-finish re-finish Interior, new lights, and electric system, add drinking fountains, remodel lunch room and kitchen, provide band room, vocal music room, typing room for Jr. high, art room for Jr. high, science labs, 3 for Jr. high and 2 (Continued on Back Page) Building Program (Continued from Page one) for high school; additional regular reg-ular class rooms, increase storage stor-age facilities. Also Included would he increased heating facilities fa-cilities at a cost of approximately $."),0)0. The program includes a new auditorium at Tarowan to sene the elementary and high schools, and estimated to cost $125,000. It would also include a new auto shop for the high school, and increase the seating capacity at the gymnasium and place a new roof on the building, the latter three items to cost $35,000. Other items in the program are listed as follows: Kanarra: Fireproof stairs and heating plant, refinishing interior, inter-ior, new lights and electric system, sys-tem, remodel to provide office and health unit, $11,000.
