Show Power Co. Asks for Rate Increase In Two Counties The Southern Utah Power company com-pany Tuesday filed a request with the Utah Public Service commission to increase its rates in Iron and Washington counties. coun-ties. The request asks for an approximate ap-proximate 5 per cent increase to boost its revenue from $521,325 for the year ended June 30, 1918, to $541,303. Such an adjustment, said the petition, would provide net earnings earn-ings of $108,076.47 instead of the $89,076.47 actually received for the year ended last June 30, or a 4.15 percent return on investment before deduction of federal income in-come tax, as compared with the 3.39 percent return actually realized. real-ized. Listing its reasons lor the petition, peti-tion, the firm cited operating cost Increases since 1912. Contemplated wage increases in-creases starting Sept. 1 of this year will add another 17.5 percent per-cent over the present costs, said the petitioners. Increased material costs also were listed, ranging from 15.9 percent for coal to 110.8 percent for insulated copper wire. Trucks have doubled in cost since 1942, the petition contended. Expenditures for construction also were given for the years 1944 through 1947. They were $98,223.-36; $98,223.-36; $412,315.86; $111,370.17; $351-161.49. $351-161.49. Estimated construction costs to the firm for 1948 are $346,631. Suggested rate changes would put all residential service in Cedar Ce-dar City on one rate instead of the three now in use, depending upon the appliances powered. A Continued Inside Second Section POWER COMPANY (Continued from Pag one) single rate also would effect residential res-idential service outside Cedar City, instead of the present four separate rates. Two schedules for commercial and small power rates outside Cedar City in the Cedar system also would be eliminated elim-inated in favor of one new schedule. sched-ule. The proposed changes: Residential service in Cedar City, present schedules: 2c for the first 35 kilowatt hours per month; 2.5c per KWH for the next 20 KWH; 2c for each additional KWH, or, $1 for the first 11 KWH per month, 6c for each of the next 20; 3c for each of the next 20 KWH and 2.5c per KWH for each additional; or 6c per KWH for each of the first 20 per month, 5c per KWH for each of the next 20, 2.5c for each of the next 20 and 2c per KWH for each additional. ad-ditional.
