Show Parowan City Calls for Election on Proposed $150,000 Power Bond Issue Faced with the problem of providing pro-viding additional electric power to meet Increased demands, the City Council of Parowan has decided de-cided upon an expansion program pro-gram and called for a bond election, elec-tion, to be held on October 2G, for the approval of issuing $150,000 in bonds. Increased power usage in Parowan Paro-wan has resulted in heavy purchase pur-chase of current from the Southern South-ern Utah Power Company, and the present Parowan municipal plant is becoming more and more inadequate. Thomas C. Adams of Salt Lake City has been retained as consulting con-sulting engineer for the project, and according to his report the proposed new plant will have a capacity of 73 per cent greater than the existing station, and will be equipped with the following follow-ing features: (1) Semi-automatic protective and alarm equipment so that it may operate unattended. (2) A resident operator's home so the plant may be operated with a single resident operator. (3) induction in-duction or step-up type voltage regulator for the circuit interconnection intercon-nection with Southern Utah Power Pow-er Company and to avoid swing in voltage of the company's lines from affecting Parowan system voltage. (4) Separate feeders with breakers, protection, reclosing and "metering for different sections sec-tions of the city. (5) D. C. battery supply for alarm and switching. switch-ing. (6) Frequency carrier control con-trol loi water heaters to reduce off-peak demand of system. (8) Relaying system to reduce load on system generator in case of failure of company interconnection interconnec-tion and inadequate system generation gen-eration to supply Parowan system sys-tem demand. (8) Supplementary buss to be used to permit temporary tem-porary substitution for any breaker. break-er. (9) Separate induction generating gen-erating system to conserve energy ener-gy available at point on penstock above main power plant where water must be tapped from penstock pen-stock to serve Parowan City irrigation ir-rigation ditches during certain seasons of the year. (10) improvements improve-ments to dam and headworks at upper end of penstock to give some equalizing of flow. (11) Control to equalize nozzle opening open-ing with available stream flow when flow is less 'than capacity of nozzle. (12) Adequate metering meter-ing equipment for operation purposes. pur-poses. (13) Improvements to primary pri-mary distribution system of the city" to allow subdivision into three feeder circuits and avoid excessive voltage drop In the system. |
