Show Cedar High School Redmen Malta Fine Showing At State Joust Despite Jinn Coach Quill Allen's Cedar high school basketball team are credited credit-ed with making a remarKably fine showing In the state high school tournament last week-end, and had the Redmen's old "one-point jinx" not continued to haunt them, their standing would undoubtedly have been much improved As the result of three one-point losses tn the regular season the. Redmen were forced to get into the tournament the hard way, playing two play-off games before qualifying. qualify-ing. Entering the tournament as def lnlte underdogs In their opening game with the highly touted Spanish Span-ish Pork Dons, the Redmen proceeded pro-ceeded to steal the show by forcing the Dons into an extra period before be-fore they could pull the game out of the fire by one point. The Redmen then met the Tooele high school team In the consolation bracket, and although Tooele had been rated as one of the best, wal-lopped wal-lopped that team In one of the most lop-sldod games of the tournament, winning by the score of 43 to 28. The Cedar team dominated play throughout the game, and held a commanding lead at all times. In the semi-finals of the consolation con-solation bracket the Cedar boys got off to a bad start, playing away below par during the first half to let Park City get into a 20 to S lead. In spite of the tremendous handicap the Redmen came back to completely outplay the Park City team In the second half and tie up the score at 31-all. They continued to play good ball in the overtime period but a last minute shot by their opponents defeated the Red-men Red-men 37 to 35, and put them out of the tournament. Boyd "Goonle" Adams, who led the ' Redmen scoring was given recognition recogni-tion for an outstanding performance. perform-ance. The Deseret News placed him on the second all-state team, and the Tribune gave hlra honorable mention.
