Show B. A. C. Basketball Team Wins Consolation Title At Western States Tourney The Bronco basketball team returned re-turned this week from Compton, California, where they participated in the Western States College Championship Basketball Tourna ment. They brought back fifth place honors and the Consolation Championship, by coming through after a first night loss, 57 to 42, to the Phoenix, Arizona, Bears to stage a tremendous second halt rally and take the Snow Badgers In the finals by a score of 45 to 44. They also took the measure of Reedley Junior College from Northern North-ern California the second night by a score of 74 to 60. and trimmed Bakersfleld 63 to 55 In the semifinals. semi-finals. Phoenix and Reedley The first night when the Broncs tackled the powerful Phoenix team they really made a game of it during dur-ing the first half and part of the second, but the Phoenix boys grad ually took a lead and In the later part of the game the Bears took command to beat the Bronco team in a decisive 57 to 42 victory. However, How-ever, the Broncos came back strong with plenty of fight the next night to trounce Reedley Junior College Col-lege 74 to 60. This game was also a close encounter up to half time, but this time it was the Broncos who loomed ahead to win. Bakersfield In the third round Friday, (he Broncos played a thrilling game with Bakersfleld, California. Bakersfield Bak-ersfield had a one point lead at half tune, but the Broncos weren't long removing that disadvantage and hopping into the lead In the second half. Both of the first string forwards, "Bunny" Fullmer and Llndy Nellson were taken ou,t on fouls, and Clark Mathews had four fouls, on him, but Darwin Woodbury and Dick DeLand came through with flying colors to help. the game, 63 to 55. Snow Session Saturday night, the last night of - the tournament, was the hardest and most brilliantly fought game of them all. It proved that BAG Is a better team than the Snow Badgers, Bad-gers, for they had each, lnc onfer-ence onfer-ence play, won home and home games and this game on a neutral floor with neutral referees clinched the decision for the Broncos, two out of three. The game started out badly for the Broncoa when Allred of Bnow took the Up and went down for a basket and was fouled (a two and one), whloh put them out In lead S to 0, In the first few seconds of play. But Bunny came right back at them by sinking one from the corner After these two splurges the game continued with the lead changing from one to the other constantly. Towards the last of the first half the Broncos seemed to blow up for a second and threw two posses away, allowing the Badgers to get ou In front by four points, and the Snow team kept rolling them In until by half time the score was 31 tD 17 for the Badgers. The second half was the most brilliant bit of playing the Broncos have shown this year. They came back like a "house afire" to gradually grad-ually come up on the Ephralm team and before the last three minutes the Broncos had tied the score at 36-all, and then went ahead 37 tq 38, From then on the game was a see-saw match, but the Broncos pulled into a 2 point lead and started stalling, and the best the Badgers could do was to sink a foul shot, and the game ended with Broncs winning, 45 to 44. Boyd Holyoak came through with flying colors with his brilliant ball stealing and bank board work. Llndy IWlson, although he couldnt seem to hit the basket too well, played an excellent floor game and worked the bank boards exceptionally exception-ally well. Bunny played fine ball as did our centers, Mathews ar.d Humpherys. The relief players. L. C. Miles. Darwin Woodbury. P.jo Peterson, and Dick DeLand, came through very well every time tlwy were called upon, L. C. doing particularly par-ticularly well during the big rally against Snow.
