Show I OUR SCHOOLS I i JUNIOR HIGH JR. II. S. APPRECIATES OPERA An interesting and educationally planned project has readied Its culmination cul-mination in the Junior high school. It had a truly fitting and enjoyable enjoy-able climax on Tuesday March 9 when the whole school group attended at-tended the opera "Rlgoletto" produced pro-duced by the music department of the B. A. C. The story of this opera had been studied in music classes In detail. Then each of several music students stu-dents went to each home room and reviewed the story. Each student did an excellent Job in the reviews. With this preparation, great interest in-terest was stimulated, so that the audience situation approaches perfection. per-fection. In fact, Director Win. H. Manning's compliment was, "I hardly hard-ly know you are there." The enthusiasm and appreciation manifested on the part of each student stu-dent reveals that projects such as this will truly help to contribute to each individual in helping to form a well rounded life. OUR GREAT AMERICAN HERITAGE, LIBERTY In compliance to a request of the American Legion lAuxillary. the Junior high school is bringing to a close a very worthwhile project namely, that of class discussions, reading assignments, and finally, expressing In an essay the feelings that this subject stirs in each in dlvldual's heart and mind. Of course, ther ) is a contest as a part of this, carried out In this way: A gift to benefit that whole school as a compliment for the Interest shown; for the individual, honors awarded according to the essay's merits with a chance to enter state and national contests. But out of all this, it Is hoped that each individual has been Inspired In-spired enough to determine as he grows older to take a conscientious attitude toward doing his part in helping liberty to continue to be the essence of our democracy. HIGH SCHOOL During the past week the conversation con-versation among the students at the high school has been centered around the State tournament. The students who went to Salt Lake City have been eagerly exchanging and comparing their opinions of their trip. The basketball boys were pleasantly pleas-antly surprised when they returned home from the State Tournament to find in their mailbox an Invitation Invita-tion to a banquet In their honor sponsored by Teen Town. The banquet ban-quet was held Monday night at the high school and chicken was served serv-ed to approximately 100 people. R. L. Oardner was master of ceremonies ceremon-ies and he called for responses from Coach Quill Allen, each member of the team, and Coach Olen Jackson, and a musical number was also en-Joyed. en-Joyed. Everyone appreciated the efforts of the Teen Town in making the team's homecoming a welcome one. The annual District FFA .Public Speaking contest was held at Or-derville, Or-derville, Friday, March 12. Lamar Graff, son of Dr. and Mrs. A. L. GraTf, represented Cedar high school at this contest, and won second place He was chosen to represent our Chapter of FFA from a group of contestants judged by local Eng lish teachers and Agriculture Technicians Tech-nicians at the semi-finals held at the high school. Our chapter is proud of Lamar for such jyi excel lent showing. Officers of the FFA are anxiously anxious-ly awaiting the State FFA convention conven-tion to be held the 26 and 27 of this month at Salt Lake City. ELEMENTARY One of the most enjoyable and interesting "Teacher's Meetings" that the teachers of the Cedar Elementary Ele-mentary school ever had, was held Monday afternoon. Principal Oscar J. Hulet, had Invited Kirk Daly, of the High school, to come and explain ex-plain the Marshall Plan. Mr. Daly's thorough "knowledge of the plan and his clear and interesting way of explaining ex-plaining It, made the meeting a memorable one. The 700 parents who saw the 4th grade play, "Uncle Sam's Happy Adventure" on Thursday night were flighted with it. The teachers .Maxlne Adams, Da Sherratt and Jennie Storrs and their pupils are certainly to be complimented on the success of this play. The play was written, arranged and produced by these three 4th : grades. The cosflumes were very attractive and well planned to rep-present rep-present the people they depicted. The dances and songs were well done and a pleasure to see and hear. The large amount of work, the long hours of planning, practicing, sewing and painting really brought delightful results. The play was huge success. It was played three times. Wednesday, Wed-nesday, the 3th, Sth, and 6th grades saw it. On Thursday night the parents par-ents enjoyed it and on Friday the 1st and 2nd grade were entertained by this fine little play |
