Show Hoard Adopts 1943-44 School Calendar The Iron County Board of Education, Ed-ucation, in meeting Monday, approved ap-proved the school calendar for the 1943-44 school year, allowing the full 172 days of school required by state law. In order to provide an early spring closing date, as has been done this year, it was necessary neces-sary to schedule a program of Saturday Sat-urday school sessions. School will open on September 6th and close on April 28th.. with school to be held on eight Saturday. Satur-day. However, the schedule will be so arranged that students will not be asked to attend on eight consecutive Saturdays, but rather on occasional Saturdays throughout through-out the year. The Christmas holiday vacation will not be disrupted next year as it wa- this. School will close on December 23rd. for the Christmas vacation and will re-open on January Jan-uary 3rd., allowing for a ten dav vacation. Only one day will be allowed al-lowed for Thanksgiving, the students stu-dents returning to school on Friday Fri-day and Saturday after Thanksgiving. Thanks-giving. The Board also spent some time In meeting requirements needed to make the district eligible for special spec-ial funds appropriated by the recent re-cent legislature. A budget of expenditures ex-penditures of the funds was adopted adop-ted as a part of the regular 1942-43 1942-43 budget. A schedule of salaries to be paid was also set up for presentation pre-sentation to the state for approval in the expenditure of the funds. In the past no regular salary schedule has teen set up for supervisors, super-visors, clerks, superintendents. Janitors Jan-itors and a number of other school employee?, but under the new regulations reg-ulations this becomes necessary. The schedules were adopted Monday Mon-day as another step In qualifying the district for the funds. The Board also granted permis-, permis-, sion to the physical education departments de-partments of the Cedar and Paro-wan Paro-wan High schools and the Junior High school to enter athletes in invitational track and field men at Hurricane on April 16th. |
