Show High School Track Team Takes Two Firsts at Dixie Coach Floyd Slater's Cedar City high school tracksters did very well for themselves at the second annual Dixie relays held in St. George Friday Fri-day afternoon. The meet, sponsored by Dixie Junior college, Is held each year the week prior to the B. Y. U. invitational invita-tional meet in order to give schools of southern Utah and southeastern Nevada a chance to tune up in competition com-petition before the mammoth Provo event. While Beaver high walked off with the points and the records Friday, notching up six new meet marks among nine posted, Cedar managed to chalk up firsts in the 110-yard dash and the 220, with Dale Milne winning both sprints. Milne equaled the meet record In the 100 and posted a new mark In the furlong. Besides Milne's sensational running, run-ning, Delmar Janson and Lester Heyborne managed to come In second se-cond in the mile and 880, respectively. respective-ly. Other individual scores made by the Cedar City boys included Carroll Car-roll Tullls, 4ih. In the 440 and also 4th. In the 220; Gene Pectol, fourth In the broad Jump; Bill Hess, fifth in the 440; and Bob Lunt tying for 5th. in the pole vault. The Cedar teams placed in two of the three relay re-lay races, with the team composed of Gene Pectol, Courtland Nelson, Carroll Tullls and Dale Milne coming com-ing In second on the 880 relay, and the team consisting of Delmar Janson, Jan-son, Lehl Wood, Bill Hess and Lester Les-ter Heyborne winning third place In the medley relay. Total scores chalked up by the various schools participating in the meet were: Beaver 92 3-4; Hurricane Hurri-cane 57 U; Dixie 35; Cedar City 29V4; Enterprise 3 3-4; Woodyard 3; and Overton 1. |
