Show Successful Clean Up Campaign Reported By Junior Chamber Cedar City is a neater and cleaner clean-er town as a result of the annual spring clean up campaign sponsored spon-sored by the local Junior Chamber of Commerce and which came to a close Saturday evening. The campaign cam-paign was highly successful this year in spite of the bad weather, according ac-cording to Mark Webster, general chairman of the committee in charge. The business houses closed their doors during the morning hours on Wednesday of last week and all employees spent the morning cleaning clean-ing up rubbish and otherwise doing their bit in the city-wide clean up. A group of 36 members of the Junior Chamber, together with 8 N.Y.A. boys, spent the morning hauling rubbish that had been piled in front of the residences to the city dump yard. Sixteen trucks hauled nearly 50 loads of rubbish Mr. Webster announced. Because of the storm, the annual "A" Day at the Branch Agricultural college, which was originally scheduled sched-uled for April 23rd, was postponed until Thursday at which time the campus was cleaned up, several campus walks were widened and others constructed, and the race track was reconditioned. The $5 prize donated by the Southern Utah Lumber and Coal Company for the best slogan for the campaign was awarded Mrs. Ruth Gardner for her slogan "Make Cedar the City Beautiful," while the $5 prize donated by the Sunset . Tavern for the best clean up Job ' on a vacant lot went to Mrs. T. C. Syrett. The Junior Chamber of Commerce Com-merce is to be congratulated on the enthusiasm with which they undertook under-took the campaign as well as on the unusually fine job that was accomplished in spite of bad weather and other set-backs. Officials of the Chamber wish to express their thanks and appreciation for the fine cooperation given them In the campaign by all the citizens of the community. |
