Show 1 Local Happenings in. i THE WEEKS OFFERINGS AT THORLEY THEATRE Following is the prograrn of moving picture plays to be shown at the Thorley Electric Theatre during the week beginning Monday, July 2nd: Monday "His Father's Son," with Lionel Barrymore and Irene Howley as stars. Wednesday First episode of "Railroad "Rail-road Raiders," featuring Miss Helen Holmes. Friday Alice Brady in "A Woman Alone," by the World Corporation. Saturday- Five reel comedy, "Kobb & Dill." Mr. William Roundy of Kanarra wus operated on yesterday at the Macfarlane hospitol for a long standing stand-ing trouble, relating to a previous operation, the wound of which has not healed properly. His son George Roundy is in town to render whatas-si whatas-si stance he can to his father. X Quite a little of the first cutting of alfalfa is now finding its way into town, nnd the harvest will soon be well under wuy. The yield is reported to bo generally very good. Principul Roy F. Homer left for Salt Lake City Tuesday on business pertaining to the B. A. C. He expects ex-pects to be absent only u few days, as he has considerable work under way at the school which will require his attention. X There has been an almost unprecedented unprece-dented umount of high water in Coal Creek this season, und the water is keeping up wonderfully well for this late in the season. Could an equal amount of water be depended upon every season, we cauld just about quudruplc our cultivated area and lay aside a large surplus of our farm products. It is understood that Miss Edna Evans is training a company of little folks for opera work. They intend to appear before the public in the opor-etta opor-etta entitled "Hiawatha's Childhood," about the middle of July. This will be a treat to the community since it will be the first time that the children have ever appeared in opera. v The concert given Sunday evening in the tabernacle for the benefit of the the Red Cross fund, was one of the best and most successful financially that has yet been given. A special feature of the program was the singing sing-ing of the Allied Nations Hymns by Hugh I 'out all, and which was greatly appreciated by the audience. The proceeds pro-ceeds of the concert uilded $71.75 to the fund for which Cedar was held responsible. The committee in charge of the Red Cross work here, have cause to be thankful to the summer school teachers for their work in assisting as-sisting to raise this fund. Besides the two concerts they gave here last week, they went to Kanarra and gave a concert. X Cedar City and vicinity exceeded by MM the apportionment mude for them on movant of the $100,000,000 Red Cross fund. Iron county was asked to raise $4,000 of this fund, $2,000 of which was expected from Cedar City, Hamilton's Fort, Enoch nnd Kanarra, the other $2,000 to be raised by Paro-wan, Paro-wan, Paragonah, Summit, Lund, Mo-denn Mo-denn and all the western settlements of the county. Miuh credit is due both the people of Cedar City und the local committee for the excellent showing made. It speaks well of the patriotism and generosity gen-erosity of the people und of the energy en-ergy injected into the work by the comittee. The instructors in the Southern Utuh School of Music also ussisted with programs and concerts, for which an admission fee wus charged. |
