Show SUCCESSFUL RED j cross campaign; i The Cedar City District Runs $382.32 Above its Quota. The American spirit is not niggardly niggard-ly and we of Iron county are Americans. Ameri-cans. Pres. Wilson's call on behalf of suffering humanity was heard and our purses opened generously. All the men in Cedar who refused flatly to give could be counted on the fingers fin-gers of one hand. Our neighboring towns who were included in the district, were unusually generous. Kanarra raised $181.10 Hamilton Fort $19.00, Enoch $88.7o and Cedar's $2,064.41 brought the amount up to $2,:!8;!.:(2. The amount assigned us by the State committee ' was $2,000.00. The general committee commit-tee feels that these little towns are deserving of special mention. We found them to be keenly alive to the importance of this call and just as ambitious as we that our district should not fall below its assigned quota. quo-ta. The Kanarra committee consisted of Reese J. Williams, Jr., J. J. Roun-j dy, Mrs. Francis Williams and Miss Jennie Reeves. Hamilton Fort was handled by F. W. Middleton and Miss Mary Urie, and Enoch by Hyruni Jones, David Gibson and Roy Armstrong. Arm-strong. These committees went enthusiastically en-thusiastically to work and the result was that the several amounts raised were generous and substantial. Some of our local organizations also rendered material assistance to the cause. In this connection special men tion should be made of the southern Utah school of music and the Cedar Primary association and the Sunday Schools, The primary, assisted by the Sunday schools, worked up a very successful suc-cessful children's parade which netted the cause $f0.00 in cash, and served In a bigger way to impress on the community the importance of the Red 'toss. The attitude of the faculty of the school of music was patriotic and inspiring. in-spiring. These people not only contributed con-tributed liberally of their means, but they also held themselves subject tg the call of the committee. During Red Cross week they gave absolutely free of charge three high class entertain nients. This same spirit of readiness to serve actuated almost the entire community. During the campaign we had occasion to call on score.-, of people peo-ple to do committee work of some kind and not more than three or four refused most people seemed glad for a chance to serve in so worthy a cause. And that may be said of the big fund we raised- it is thoroughly representative. rep-resentative. It is not the gift of a few rich men who would not feel it. It is the gift of the people. In many Instances the living meant real physical phys-ical sacrifice, but the gift was cheerfully cheer-fully made. The committee knows of no family in Cedar City that is not represented in the fund, and we presume pre-sume the same is true of our neighboring neigh-boring communities which make up our district. It is something to be proud of and we offer to you, officially, official-ly, the congratulations and thanks of the American Red Cross. WM. It. PALMER, ALLIE KNELL, KATE P. RYAN, JOHN P. FULLER, rRANK B. WOOD, General Committee. |
