OCR Text	Show Organization of the G. A. R. The Grand Army of the Republic was organized in Decatur, 111.. April 6. 1SO0. Its existence is primarily due to Dr. R. F. Stephenson and Chaplain W. .1. Rutledge of the Fourteenth Illinois Illi-nois infantry, who conceived the idea of its formation in 1SG4. The first national na-tional encampment was inaugurated November 20, ISGG. The Grand Army has been organized into departments representing the states and territories. In 10Ki there were i.42 posts having a membership of 159.S63. The establishment estab-lishment of Memorial day is due to the efforts of the G. A. Ft.
