The war has given the final blow to the free trade theory so far as sugar is concerned. Great Britain, Brit-ain, for years the sole remaining prominent adherent of this policy, has now definitely abandoned it for a preferential tariff favoring the expansion ex-pansion of sugar production within the empire. Right here in the west we have a chance to develop the beet sugar industry in-dustry to enormous proportions, thus building un our farm lands and e:ir-l tie industry which go hand in hand with the beet sugar industry.
