Show MARTIN BACK IN PRISON HOME Esoaped Blackmailer Gives Self Up After Months of Liberty. Salt. Lake City. Joseph Henry Martin, Mar-tin, blackmailer and burglar, who was serving a life sentence in the Utah state prison, gave himself up at Ogden Monday night to Warden George L. Storrs, after a freedom of fifteen months, during which time he had roamed the west after escaping from prison. Martin, one of the most notorious 'criminals of the west, walked out of the gates of the prison as a trusty on July 8, 1919, and until September 20 the Utah authorities were without a clew as to where he had gone. On that date he wrote to Warden Storrs, expressing a desire to return to prison and make amends for his acts. |
