Show Bond Election Discussed By Garfield School Board Recent school board minutes show that a great deal of interest has been generated in the upcoming bond election set for Tuesday, July 29. Proposed is bonding for a new Escalante High School in the amount of $1,860,000. John Gardner of Prudential-Bache Prudential-Bache Securities read to the board the proposition that will be printed on the offical ballot and presented to the voters. While the proposition called for a 23-year maturity on the bonds, the board felt that this period of time was too long and opted for a 20-year pay-off period. The board also voted to meet on Wednesday, July 30 to canvass the votes from the July 29 election. Board President Quay Simons asked the board to organize town meetings in Escalante, Bryce Valley, Panguitch, Antimony and Ticaboo for the purpose of presenting the information on the bond election. The first meeting was held in Escalante on July 8, 1986. President Simons encouraged board members to be positive about the election and to do all they could to help people understand the need for the facility in Escalante. Simons asked Gardner to work up a document for a mass mailing that will be sent to the county voters 10 days prior to the election. Architect Roy Silver prepared a . rendering of the new facility so that interested persons can get a better idea of the proposed complex. The board suggested that the Escalante PTA should interact with the Bryce Valley and Panguitch PTA s to seek understanding and support for the Escalante High School Bond. Simons, however, exDressed some concerns that the PTA group would not be enought to get the necessary support. Doug Austin gave the board some detailes of the Co2 development in the Escalante area which could increase the assessed valuation of the county and could make federal funds available.
