Show Gaffield-4H Members Win State Awards Garfield County 4-H members attending last week's 4-H State Congress at Logan captured some important awards. The county's eight representatives competed with 450 4-H club members from all over Utah at the annual event held at Utah State University July 7-9. Competing in the open class, Carson Marshall and Roshell Proctor, competing as a team, took third place with "The Microwave Oven as an Appliance", demonstrating demon-strating the technology, proper care and maintenance of the appliance. Another team taking third place in the energy division were Cody Baldwin and John Holman who demonstrated wind-powered devices. Taking third in shooting sports was a four-man team composed of Carson Marshall, Cody Baldwin, John Holman, and James Matthews in the rifle division. Marshall also captured second place in the individual rifle awards. James Matthews took first place on the written test in the hunter safety written test, and a blue ribbon for his hydropower energy demonstration. demon-stration. Eileen McKee took a blue ribbon in the foods division for her wheat bread and Carson Marshall received a blue ribbon in the talent division for two selections on the piano. Roshell Proctor captured a blue ribbon in public speaking. For their first time at a state Congress, 4-H club members Amy Foy and Alisha Hatch did a demonstration in meal preparation, particularly difficult category according to advisor Elaine Baldwin. They stayed in dorms on campus at the university where all meals were provided. First and second place winners will atend the National 4-H Congress set for Denver in November. Third place winners serve as alternates in the event others are not able to attend. |
