Show Hospital Foundation Sets Future Goals Members of the Garfield Memorial Health Care Foundation met July 8 to discuss both its fund raising capacity for the Garfield Memorial Hospital and setting goals for the acquisition of needed equipment to better serve the community. Although the foundation is neither run nor owned by the hospital, the foundation exists to serve it. The foundation has set a goal of making $10,000 available for the purchase of much-needed equipment. equip-ment. One of the items mentioned as a mammography machine to detect breast cancer (the most prevalent cancer in women). A machine at Garfield Memorial Hospital would save many women more than a 200-mile 200-mile drive currently required for a mammography. A new heart monitoring system would benefit some 100 patients per year. This machine will cost $30,000. This important unit would free valuable nursing "machine time" that the nurse could spend more effectively at a patient's bedside. Two more items discussed were a new call ight system, and a pacemaker defibrinator unit. The foundation has averaged a major purchase for the hospital each year. A new operating microscope has been added to the surgeons instruments, allowing the medical staff to perform delicate surgery. Life-line units have been purchased which allows patients to stay home who might otherwise be hospitalized. Hospital administrator Wayne Ross stated that by giving the fine medical staff at the facility excellent ex-cellent tools, they can and do perform per-form more services better. "Century Club" members, those donating $100 or more a year, are the backbone of the program. Bob Benfield, foundation financial officer, of-ficer, states the "difference this year seems to be that more people have donated memorials in the name of their deceased loved ones." This year's fund raising dinner has been targeted for November 15, and a guest speaker has been secured, the author of the best selling novel "Solo" which tells the true story of survival of an air crash just south of Price. Ross says that anyone interested in becoming a member of the foundation or anyone desiring to see someone else on the board contact him or Bruce Howard. |
