Show Austin to Head New USU Region District Joe Austin, formerly a county agent in Sevier County, will supervise the South District in a reorganization of the statewide structure of the Utah State University Extension into three districts. The Southwest District Includes Millard, Sanpete, Beaver, Sevier (where Austin is based In Richfield) , Piute, Wayne, Iron, Garfield, Washington and Kane counties. The adminstrative changeover, which became effective June 1, divides the state into the northern, central east and southwest districts. II. Paul Larsen, vice president for USU Extension, said the changeover is designed to improve the administration of the statewide program. "I have evaluated numerous administrative and organizational systems in extension," Larsen said, "and while none is perfect this comes as close to a potentially sound system as we can have in Utah. "This change will help us improve the service we provide to the residents of the state." USU Extension, using county extension personnel and on-campus specialist, helps meet local needs In the areas of agriculture, home economics, natural resources, 4-H youth and community and rural development. Two other former area coordinators have been named to v. j supervise the new extension districts. Wayne Rose, a former county agent in Salt Lake City, has been named supervisor of the Northern District, which comprises Box Elder, Cache, Rich, Weber, Morgan, Summit, Davis, Salt Lake (where Rose is based in Salt Lake City) and Tooele counties. Named to supervise the Central East District is Ralph II. Home, a USU Extension area agronomist. Home, based in Provo, oversees Utah, Juab, Wasatch, Duchesne, Daggett, Uintah, Carbon, Emery, Grand and San Juan counties. |
