Show ' JUST STUFF I Y J Having spent half my life roaming the shores of Fish Lake it seems only natural that I would have a fond affinity for fishing. However, fishing is not my forte. In fact, it has never been one of my favorite fun things to do. For me, most lake fishing consists of endless hours of standing on the bank, tossing and reeling a line in and out of the water, or drifting for ages in a metal boat in the hot summer sun. Luckily, I was blessed with a husband who shares my sentiments when it comes to wetting a line. That was, until today! When he said "I'm goin' fishing," naturally I thought he was teasing . . . Kraig, fishing? However, he's always game to try something new, and my sister Judy and her pal were going fishing. Of course, this wasn't your everyday, run-of-the mill fishing. Nope, this was some new fangled "sure-to-make-fishing fun" way to fish and Kraig was going to try it. The pole, worms, flies and fishing hat are all standard equipment. They're added to a set of swim fins, some hip waders and an innertube decorated in camoflauge, rigged up with a special harness that you sit in. With fins afoot and the tube around the midriff, the fisherman waddles backwards into the water, and paddles off to fish to his heart's content. The tube is complete with backrest, life jacket and a net bag to dangle over the side to keep a bevy of beverages cooL Not having tried it, it looks to me like it takes the worst of both worlds you get the endless hours of throwing out and reeling in your line, while floating in the middle of the lake in the hot summer sun. Of course, that's the voice of someone who hasn't tried it speaking. At this very moment my husband is probably floating in the middle of some lake having the time of his life. When the gang returns this evening from their fearless fishing foray, one of two things is going to happen. Kraig is either going to be a grump for having spent all day out in the middle of some lake doing something he didn't like or he's going to have had so much fun that our next investment will be in the line of fishing tubes and poles and someone who despises fishing is going to have to learn to like it! |
