Show Escalante Chat Marilyn Jackson Wallace Woolsey took wife, Darlene and newlyweds, Rick and Jill Woolsey to Sun Valley, Ida. where Wally attended a bankers convention. They stopped briefly In Escalante before returning to Cedar City. Mr. and Mrs. Randal (Gwen) Lyman were visited by son, Dick Lyman, his wife Mary and four boys of Bountiful. Dick's son, Randy has recieved a mission call to the South African mission. He will enter the Missionary Training Center, August 8. Randy is the second grandchild of the Lymans to be at the Mission Training Center, as granddaughter, Janine Greer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim (Deanna Lyman) Greer, is there preparing for a mission to Sicily. Mary Lyman also came for the Coombs family reunion held at Boulder. Karl and Anne Spencer also attended the family celebration where all but two of the Coombs children were present, making nealry 70 in attendance. Sunia Spencer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Spencer is attending summer school at Brigham Young University. Lois and her husband, J. Reldon Srake of Las Vegas parked their camp trailer near the home of her brother, Cook Liston where they plan to enjoy the holidays and do some fishing. Their two daughters, Paula and Pamela are planning fall weddings. Lois will soon retire from 30 years of teaching and hopes to spend more time here. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Willis spent several days at Pine Lake where they met son, Lowell and family, and son, Elwood with his youngest daughter from Richfield. Sandra Leibenguth and daughters have opened a small shop on Main Street where they sell shaved ice. Rolaine Trujillo accompanied Sandra to Las Vegas taking Mr. and Mrs. Walt (Flora) Leibenguth to catch a flight to Kentucky where they will visit Walt's brothers and sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Tom (Marilyn) Jackson returned from a week long tour which took them through eastern Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada. They visited Tom's parents and two sisters along the way and took in all the sights. Coming home through Henrieville, they were among the first to arrive at the scene of the oil tanker which tipped over. The driver was uninjured, but the trailer damaged. LaReta Spencer enjoyed a visit from most of her children. Son Don brought his wife and three children from Denver, Colo, where he works with a trucking company. He took his family fishing at Barker Reservoir. Son Wayne Spencer and his wife have one son. He is the manager of Welches Fun Cars in Salt Lake City. Son Robert works for Kaibab Industries in Orderville. He and his wife have three children. Gail and Martin Stock and daughter, Toni, came from Cannonville and daughter Vickie from Teasdale. Vickie's oldest son has just returned from the Oakland, Calif, mission. Her second son is in the mission field in Mexico, and her youngest daughter at home. This was the first time their family had been together in five years, since the death of their father. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil (Carrie) Griffin seemed so quiet after daughters LaNell's children Richard and Becky went to Salt Lake City to visit their father, Rick Divers, so they joined daughter Debbie and family for camping. Alvin Cowles and his wife JoAnn brought their son, Stuart and daughter Tracy Haight to visit the Daniel Cowles, Orvil Cowles, and Dick Schow families. Mr. and Mrs. Orvil Cowles had daughter, Carolyn LeFevre of Panguitch . Carolyn recently had a car accident on her way to work at Bryce Canyon which totalled the car, and left her bruised and sore. Carin Shallit has moved into the Tony Jackson home. Ruth Lay accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Barney to Richfield. Reverend and Mrs. Milton Carr were accompanied by Berniece Johnson to Salina for the ordination of Reverend Any Adank who will preside over the Castle Dale Church previously under the direction of Reverend Carr. Berniece and son, Mannley Johnson went to Cedar City for picnicking with Berniece's son, Steven and wife who have their fourth son born June 12. They all went to Aspen Mirror Lake for fishing and to get acquainted with the new baby. Delia Christiansen went to Kolob Mountain to help daughter, Charl Paula whose family is building a new cabin there. The C. R. Griffins joined Mr. and Mrs. Milt Jolley at his cabin on Cedar Mountain for the 4th of July. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Caldwell came for the holiday bringing his brother, Bill Caldwell and wife of Las Cruces, N.M. They toured the Hole-in-the-Rock region and visited Jim's inlaws, the John Fosters. Susan Wilson is recovering from ear surgery. Her mother, Helen Shurtz, was visited by her nephew, Wade Zobell, his wife and two-month old daughter of Fillmore. They met friends from Page and camped on Boulder Mountain. Due to the growth in our area, many of the telephone numbers are being changed. If 42 doesn't work try 48. The Munson family held a three-day reunion at Central. Twenty-two of 25 members of the LoRell Munson family attended. The Roach grandparents brought Daryl Munson's four older children from California, but with his dental practice and obligations as bishop, Daryl, his wife and small son did not attend. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Rex and seven children of New Hampshire, and the Mike Collins family of San Diego, have returned to the Riddle Ranch property in Main Canyon for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Rick (Randi) Haws and small son, Klyn have returned to Escalante for the summer where Rick has employment at the sawmill. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Alvey had their three daughters, Janine, Raylene and Denise home for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Haycock met son Doug at Fish Lake for camping. They stayed to attend the Thomas Heaps family reunion where they were joined by the LaVern Griffin family. Ada Porter enjoyed a visit from son, Bobby and wife; sister, Erma Hamilton and Erma's son, Kenny. They helped with work around her home and spent the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Merlo Kay Woolsey came from Fruita, Colo, with their sons to spend the week with the Haynes Woolsey family. Evan Schow's sister, Ann and her husband, Pete Daleadout of Huntington Beach, Calif, were here visiting family and attending the Lester Heaps family reunion. Ethel Pollock, has son Gary's boys visiting with her. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth (Rita) Spencer are guests at the LaRue Spencer home. Mr. and Mrs. Reed (Karen) Munson spent several days at Snowbird while Reed studied to obtain his contractors license. Gail Barney was in Salt Lake City visiting her mother. Norma Schow has her grandchildren visiting. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Banks have their son, Robert and his eight children' with them while they relocate from Maryland to Hawaii. Wayne and Robert rode horses down the Escalante River and toured the Salt Lake City and Colorado area during their stay. Wanda Mellor had children, DeWayne and LaVoy, their families and friends with a total of 33 children and seven adults at her home. They camped in the yard and toured the Griffin Top and Calf Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Hal R. Shurtz spent the holiday in Richfield with son, Kay Lynn, who is employed with Fish Lake National Forest there. Mr. and Mrs. Quay Simons were joined by Carol's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Theobald, Toquer-ville; her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth (Barbara) Beckstrom, Santa Clara; and her other sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Kelly (Sheila) Cannon, St. George, for camping on Boulder Mountain. Carol and her sister Barbara both celebrated birthdays July 3. The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan (Kathy) Johnson received the name of Christopher Jerald Johnson in sacrament meeting. The full-time missionaries will be in our area for seven weeks, they bore their testimonies also. A hearing regarding the possible four-day school week will be held tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the Escalante High School, just prior to the regular school board meeting at 7:00 p.m. The school board will be present to hear pros and cons of the proposal.
