Show Near-new Corvette was not as lucky as its driver, Knute Knuteson, Provo, who "scaped with scrat- ches, Prize rodeo horse his vehicle struck was killed in early July 4 accident south of Panguitch. Car Strikes Horse; Damages High A $24,000 auto sustained $10,000 in damages and a $10,000 rodeo horse is dead as a result of a July 4 collision on U.S. 89. The accident occured at 1:20 a.m. approximately two and one-half miles south of Panguitch. Knute Knuteson, 24, Provo, was traveling el an estimated speed of 60-65 mph when his late model Corvette struck the animal according to investigating officer Pete Sawyer, Garfield County Deputy Sheriff. Knuteson was not cited said Sawyer because of the absence of skid marks that could give an accurate indication of speed. The horse, owned by Russell Hatch, Panguitch, was a barrel racer and a prized animal. Knuteson sustained only minor injuries and a sheriff's department spokesman said he was a very lucky man. Had Knuteson been going a little slower, the horse could have landed on the vehicle, causing much more damage to the auto and possibly major injuries to the driver. |
