Out of six quilts made by a Panguitch 4-H group, four were chosen for Utah State Fair exhibits while another group learned to make Navajo bread from Cindy Madson. During the 1978-79 year there were 39 organized 4-H clubs in Garfield County. These groups of young people learned how to decorate cakes, tie comforters, make foreign foods, sew clothing for themselves, prepare foods for family and friends, play guitars, care for livestock, cook out-of-doors, care for young children, play tennis and fish. Adult leaders across the county are to be commended for a fun-filled year offered to these young people since learning new skills is the basis for 4-H projects. Adult leadership and parental support are essential in order to have such a successful year. Special activities contributing to this success were 4-H camp at the Pink Sand Dunes in June, a Bike-a-thon in May, decorative Christmas bread workshop in November, a Pass-Dribble-Shoot Club to improve basketball skills held during the winter In Panguitch, and a foreign breads workshop in August. 4-H youth over 14 years o age were Invited to attend a home improvement tour and youth conference in Logan in .June and state contests in September. A club in Garfield county was a journalism club led by Jerri Fackrell of Panguitch, Members of that club learned skills involved in producing a newspaper which was circulated to 4-H leaders. 4-H was also the sponsoring agency for the three Japanese young people who visited our country for a month this summer, staying with local families.
