'jf Jyft) QUILTS HER HOBBY f' ',y Quilting, an art from the pioneer days, is very " f X much alive in Tropic. Minerva Dutton can be seen . If., sitting at her quilting frames most any time of the m yuf year. As a person enters her living room, so neat jrr and cozy, there above her head is tied a quilting ( frame with a beautiful quilt on it. The frame has a set of pulleys attached so the quilt may be raised out sl ! I of the way up near the ceiling, when not in use. Jim Mrs. Dutton learned to quilt when she was just a Ctr Abh small girl; her mother, the late Frances I I Jt Shakespear, taught all of her girls this art, and C there were quite a few of them. Minerva has not lost jp that special touch of using the needle in many ar- V tistic ways. She has made quilts for all of her JfL mL children and grandchildren, as well as for friends 'am When a new baby comes to the home of a friend or neighbor, she makes sure that it has a new quilt for its bed. The Tropic Relief Society has profited many times and in many ways from the beautiful tops that she has made and helped them with. She is not only talented in making quilts, she does beautiful crocheting and embroidery work, many of her pieces of handiwork have brought her blue ribbons from fairs and exhibits. No matter when one goes to call on her, she is always busy. She believes that she must always keep her hands and fingers busy, for she does not believe in being idle. |
