By DAVE WIGHAM - LAYTON Although they are still relatively young in the sport the Layton High soccer team has made some great strides in the sport in the past few years LAYTON still isnt con- of one sidered the powerhouses in soccer but at the same time the Lancers arent the pushovers they once were either Up until a few years ago the soccer team at Lay tun was generally considered to be a bunch of athletes out having a good time. Now the Layton club is well organized and play a good brand of soccer Evidence of this was the teams tie last week with a good Woods Cross improving each game a great long range shot in the Woods Cross game and wul probably become the man to watch for the Lancers Tim Plummer is another player up front who can score from just about anywhere Another Englishman, Tony have Speck, Paul Dupaix, Jeff Melillo, and Jeff Montgomery With these youngsters the Lancers are building for the future, theyll be competitive right now but even better in the years to Washington, also comes, highly talented to the Layton team This trio of players are the main threats around the come They know the game and have good skills JUNIORS on the varsitv goal for Lavton WITH the addition of the two players from England the Layton team has become more soccer oriented No more do they just kick the ball and run after it but they try to work the ball around and pass it up field. Its good to see that brand of soccer being played team are Robert Marcee, Tom Phelps, Fred Tim Hiikerson, Dan and Paul Androwski players are in thur year of competition, high school level, and who Sophomores made the team tnclude Scott Stone, Scott Hunter, Anthony Kemp, Dritz, These second on the are all I 0-- 0 team W ITH only three seniors on the squad the future looks bright for Layton in this event. COACH Olsen calls Lemmon an excellent fielding second sacker who can surprise people with his bat Bernard is being billed as one of the best shortstops m the schools history, with the likes of Gerry Okuda and Gary Malmrose thats good company, who has a good arm Nelson had a great summer in baseball and has good speed and power at the plate He injured his hamstring in the feast game and will miss a couple of weeks LUDDINGTON is one of the best all around athletes at the school Coach Olsen indicates that his bat is a great asset, he hit a home run against the Woods Cross team Muir is considered their best pitcher, he is really throwing hard notes his unglass For JJPFTYL FLAYEOY couch His bat will also keep him in the lineup when not pitching Hilton and Muir will alternate on the mound and outfield BOUNTIFUL also has a lot of sophomores on the club who will see some action.
