Show f f Cougars Add Long Beach For Football WINNING TENNIS with DAVE KCRNREICH U.S.P.T... Professional ' forehand stroke I The forehand stroke is nearly everybody's bread and butter shot. Most players teel that employing the forehand stroke will enhance their chances of winning the point. But as a pkyer develops his game, he soon realizes that although he is physically stronger on the forehand side, it is not necessarily his most consistent : hot. On the contrary, he learns that the backhand stroke is the more natural swing. Unless one takes care and uses proper technique, one can develop an erratic i i forehand stroke. To hit a proper forehand, take the racquet back to just below shoulder level (fig. 1). This will ailow you to have a long foreward swing; the longer the swing, the more power you are able to generate at ball contact. Occasionally, however, one does not have time to take a long backswing. After carrying the racquet back, step into and meet the ball off the fiont foot at waistlevel. Be sure to come slightly under the ball (fig. 2). In figure 3 we see the perfect players aim uud racquet Lute finished high and to the left.
