Show Page 52 - THE HERALD, Provo, Utah, Sunday, December 11, 1983 Arts - Special to the Herald Christmas with music and the Utah Valley Symphony comes this year this Wednesday night in the Provo Tabernacle at 8 p.m. The Utah Valley Symphony and Conductor Ralph G. Laycock join with the Ralph Woodward Chorale and Conductor Ralph Woodward for a total Christmas music evening. Utah Valley Symphony in its 26th season, and Ralph Woodward Chorale in its 18th, have the honor of being two of the oldest continuously existing musical groups in the valley. Both have a number of members who have been wth their organization since the beginnings when dedicated performers sometimes epoch. His originality and multiple thematic inventions produce music astoundingly appealing to both player and listener. Conductor Woodward has chosen to conduct the symphony and the Ralph Woodward Chorale in two Robert Shaw Suites of favorite carols and hymns which reflect Lyon, a noted and r music educator, will visit Orem on Wednesday to meet with local parents and area musicians. Dr. Lyon, professor of music at Western Oregon State Colof the Rainlege, is bow Tones Audio-VisuString Series, with Reva Blair. His visit to Utah coincides with the al Mormon Tabernacle Choir Broadcast today, in which his number, "Soft, Soft" will be performed. The public is invited to meet with Dr. Lyon to learn more about the Rainbow Tones method of string instruction. A reception in his honor will be Wednesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at The Musical Rainbow, 1407 N. State Street, Wasatch Square in Orem. It is open to the public. A. Laurence Lyon was born in Rotterdam, Holland. He studied piano, violin, and trumpet in Salt Lake City. His compositional studies took place at the IUV U holiday feelings from worshipful to great rejoicing. Dr. Laycock will lead the audience in singing a number of Christmas carols including one with only the children in the audience singing "Jingle Bells." Climaxing the singing will be the audience rising to sing the "Hallelujah" chorus from del's Messiah.
