Offered I Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, located in Little Cottonwood Canyon, blossoms into a center for cultural, athletic, entertainment and dining experiences as deep snows of the Wasatch recede, unveiling green meadows of wildflowers and cool summer fun in the mountains. Cultural festivals, Aerial Tram Rides, Children's Day Camp, superb dining, art shows and musical concerts are justsome of the highlights happening throughout the summer season. Toasting off the end of the season is the annual Oktoberfest, offering something for everyone. j In May the resort gears up for festivals of all varieties. Folk, Mexican, Basque, Kids, Sports, Western and America's Birthday Festivals are featured on weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Dancing, singing, entertainers, audience participation activities, fcpecialty foods, exhibits and more come alive each weekend to help celebrate the theme of the festival. Music in the mountains can be experienced with symphony, jass and pop concerts presented by the Snowbird Institute. Concerts are held at the outdoor Music Pavilion located under a unique yellow and white tent on the third level of the Snowbird Center. Snowbird's Aerial Tram operates daily taking riders to the 11,000 ft Hidden Peak for a spectacular 360 degree view of the nearby mountain ranges and valleys. The tram operates from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Summer Mountain Guide Service begins in June and continues into early fall. On this guided hike beginning at the top of the tram, Snowbird visitors learn about the local flora, fauna, as well as the geology and history of little Cottonwood Canyon. Five outdoor-tennis courts are located near Iron Blosam Lodge in the Village, open to guests and the public daily from 8 am. to 8 p.m. A Pro Shop is available at the facility, providing tennis instruction, rental equipment and hosting special tournaments throughout the season. The surface of the courts is Laykold-D, an asphalt acrylic specially designed providing a "slower" playing surface for high elevations. Snowbird's Children's Day Camp is for children six years and older, featuring outdoor-oriented activities such as swimming, tennis, (with instruction in both), nature hikes, photography, field science, volleyball, badmitton, tetherball and various crafts. Activities start June 1st and continue through August. Qualified and experienced supervisors run the camp which will begin its fifth season this year.
