Utah Pageant of the Arts will open their twelfth season of "Living Pictures" with a striking Wedgwood pendant artfully showcased in a jewelbox setting. Other scenes in the new production will include the classic beauty of "The Lady with the Harp," painted by Thomas Sully, the unpredictable un-predictable American artist, in 1818. This will be paired with a contemporary painting by Burt Procter, who completed his "The Harpist" in 1954. The Pageant season for 1984 opens June 9, with Governor Scott M. Matheson and Utah's first lady on hand for the festivities. The Pageant will continue nightly, except Sundays and July 4, through July 20. Curtain time will be 8 p.m. and tickets are only $9 and $7. Admission to the Pre-Show Seminar on the arts, the Professional and Youth Art Exhibits, as well as the Pageant Guild auction exhibit, is all included in the Pageant ticket, according to Betty N. Brady, chairman of the Pageant board of trustees. The Pageant has been patterned after the French "tableau vivant" and features famous paintings, sculptures and other art objects, brought to life with a unique combination of staging, lighting, costuming, narration and music. The new show will present an exciting combination of scenes and selections, with the 15-piece Hummel Collection, featuring cards and figurines from the art of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel. This age-of-innocence is contrasted by two sophisticated paintings in the style of Francois Boucher, "The Fountain of Love," and the charming "Chess Game," by Italian artist Francesco Beda. Sure to please the audience will be the "Tribute to Bavaria," which will be lavish with paintings, murals, sculpture and the treasures of the castles of Bavaria during the reign of the ill-fated Ludwig II. The nostalgia of Norman .Rockwell will be welcomed in three charming paintings completed in 1923: "Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter," "Pondering on the Porch," and "The Painter." The "Burghers of Calais," a striking six-figure six-figure classic by Auguste Rodin, will be among the new sculpture selections. "Ministering Angel," and the stunning piece "The Dancers" will be returned because audiences asked to see these favorites again. A total of 45 selections are included in the new 1984 performance, including a rendition ren-dition of "Christ in Gethsemane," by Harry Anderson, from a mural in the Salt Lake Temple Square visitor center. The awe-" inspiring "La Pieta," by Michelangelo Buonarroti. The artist had guaranteed the work to be "the most beautiful in all Rome" and it was installed in St. Peter's when he was only 24-years old. Tickets are available at the Pageant box office, located in the basement of the American Fork Senior Citizens Center, 54 East Main. Hours are from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. weekdays, until May 29, when the box office will be open from 10 a.m. through 6 p.m., daily, except Sundays. Over the counter, mail and telephone reservations will be accepted. Patrons are urged to purchase their tickets early to avoid disappointment. The June 9 performance will mark the Gala Opening Night, with a reception and the presentation of the Pageant art and ballet scholarships, plus presentation of Sweepstakes Winner and Best of Show Awards. June 14 will be American Fork Chamber of Commerce Night, with a special "behind-the-scenes" presentation following the show, plus awarding of art prints and paintings. All performances of the Pageant are presented at the American Fork High School Theater, with the pre-show seminars and art exhibits also conducted in adjacent areas of the school. mm mm "THE LADY WITH THE HARP," by American artist Thomas Sully, was painted in 1818. 4 KING LUDWIG II of Bavaria, at age 19.
