In an attempt to get as many Utahns as possible involved in recreation and health leisure activities, the Utah Recreation and Park Association is organizing a statewide relay. "Life, Be in it," is a National Recreation and Park Association campaign which stresses the importance of being active. The three major routes will begin in Logan, St. George and the Four Corners border area south of Moab. Hundreds of participants will carry the baton along these routes until they meet in Salt Lake City on June 9. Governor Matheson has proclaimed the 9th of June as the Utah "Life, Be in it," Relay Day and the month of June as parks and Recreation Month. A celebrationbarbecue is planned for the grand finale of the relay at 6 p.m. in Liberty Park on the 9th of June and everyone is invited! On Friday, June 8, the baton will be picked up from Provo and pass through Orem along State Street between noon to 2 p.m. Pleasant Grove will then take it between 2 to 6 p.m. It should arrive in American Fork at about 6 p.m. The relay will attempt to get as many individuals as possible involved. The emphasis is on participation, not competition. com-petition. The goal is to get people from all age groups and walks of life up off their backsides and into life. Examples of some of the planned modes of travel include: wheelchair, bicycle, run, walk, stagecoach, motorized hang glider, skate board, roller skates, railroad hand cart, etc. The more unique, the better. The relay is for everyone - young, old, individuals or groups. The more the merrier. All participants will sign a historic scroll which will be located inside the baton after completing their portion of the relay. They will also receive a Utah "Life, Be in it" t-shirt.
