The Utah Premiere of A River Runs Through It gives us an occasion to join together and provides the Coalition with the opportunity to acknowledge Mr. Redford for his support of Utah's arts and business communities." A River Runs Through It is a drama-adapted from the acclaimed, essentially autobiographical autobio-graphical novella by Norman Maclean-about two brothers, their father, who is a minister, and the river that in many ways shapes their lives. Set in Montana between 1910 and 1935, the story uses fly fishing as both a metaphor and a meeting ground-combining science, sport, religion and art, and sometimes a quest for the mysterious grace that they all share. A Utah resident since 1965, Redford has touched the lives of millions of people throughout the world through his work as an actor and director. Redford owns and operates the Sundance Resort near Provo and three years ago founded the Sundance Catalog, a national mail order company which operates a state-of-the-art fulfillment center in Salt Lake City. Redford's Sundance Institute, founded in 1980, presents the Sundance Film Festival each January in Park City, Utah. The Festival brings an estimated 5,000 attendees from out-of-state and more than 5.5 million in annual revenue. In addition to his work promoting film production in Utah through the internationally acclaimed Sundance Institute, Redford has produced numerous films in Utah including, Downhill Racer, Jeremiah Johnson, and The Electric Horseman. Coalition for Utah's FutureProject 2000 is a community-based, non-partisan organization seeking to create opportunity, diversity, and quality of life for all Utah citizens. Current programs lead and stimulate action in the areas of education, economic development, health care, and the resolution of the wildernessland-use controversy contro-versy in Utah through collaborative action. Activities include workshops, planning conferences, public school curriculum, cur-riculum, television documentaries, news series, in-depth newspaper articles, and public awareness campaigns, as well as concrete action taken by private and governmental bodies resulting in new directions in critical areas such as child care, transportation, and health care access. The Sundance Institute is dedicated to the support of emerging artists, and to the development and exhibition of new, independent dramatic and documentary films, and new plays for family audiences. Through its artistic programs including the Sundance Film Festival, and the Sundance Children's Theatre, the Institute has become internationally recognized as a rare and valuable resource for artists and audiences who cherish the creation of unique, original works to add to the American stage and screen repertory.
