Show Thursday, September 1 7, 1992 B Page A18 Veronica & Mom-everyday heroes Sherman by JUP. Max The Park Record Section A Veronica hugged the giant stuffed monkey, and wrapped the sweater with the embroidered kitty around her. She smiled at the hand-drawn pictures from the second graders, and she moved her minature oil painting all around the living room until she found the just right spot. She put the hand beaded necklace and braclet on, and she rubbed her hands over the crystal paperweight etched with her name. Her mother said she has received several checks, and one anonymous donor paid one of the doctor bills in full. The seven-year-old little girl, born without a face who recently moved to Park City with her single mother, just underwent her 46th successful operation. She is so grateful for all the attention and caring shown by the Park City community in recent weeks. We told you we would keep you informed on Veronica's progress and so here goes... Veronica's surgery to help rebuild her face went well, but she has needed 24-hour nursing care for two weeks. Her mother, an ICU nurse, and another professional friend of hers have been spelling one another. For while the grafting and the eye surgery went well, Veronica occasionally Editorial stops breathing. Good news, the doctors say her eye surgery has been so successful she can have another surgery in October and possibly have near normal vision in her natural eye. Bad news, Laura and Veronica have to move out of their condo next week because the lease runs out. On Thursday Veronica will return to the hospital to undergo tests to find out why she stops breathing. Neither Laura or her mother are complaining. They take each day and find the good and look to tomorrow. This week, the pair visited the Park Record, and the staff here had a chance to show Veronica the office. The bravery of those two wasn't lost on us. It's not often you get to meet heroes up close. u i Tp P !
