Payless granted additional four square feet in signage The Planning Commission voted Sept. 9 to approve a conditional use permit (CUP) for a larger sign for Payless Drugs, currently under construction, located near the Hardees on Iron Horse Drive. Payless applied for the CUP in order to request an 85 square foot sign, which exceeds the 45 square feet allowed in Park City's uniform sign code. According to a memo from Planning Intern Janice Lew, the sign code allows for a sign that is 5 percent of total building facade, but only with the conditional use permit. The commission's CUP approval is for one sign that is 49 square, as opposed to 45 square feet Although the planning staff had received input from seven members of the public opposed to granting the CUP, Seltenrich told the City Council Sept. 10 that 49 square feet, "is really very small for a building of that size." She added that Payless was considering an appeal of the CUP to the council. If Payless opts to build the sign under the currently approved CUP, staff will have the opportunity to review the colors and materials used in the sign. Resort Management Office gets CUP for construction The Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit (CUP) for construction within the frontage protection zone for the Resort Property Management Office Building. The building, which is located at 1225 Kearns Blvd., is proposed as a 2,800 square foot two-story structure, according to the staff report. It was approved with four conditions. Silver Lake Inn MPD modified to add restaurant A modification to Silver Lake Inn master plan development (MPD) was approved during the Sept. 9 Planning Commission meeting. The modification will allow the developer to add a private restaurant in connection with the Deer Valley Club operation and ownership. Planning Commission Alison Child voted against the approval, stating, she didn't believe the restaurant was going to stay private in the long run and therefore parking was inadequate. El Cheepo continued A modification of El Cheepo's conditional use permit to allow outdoor speakers was continued to the Sept. 23 Planning Commission meeting. El Cheepo, a southwestern restaurant, is located on upper Main Street Women business owners plan retreat The Utah Association of Women Business Owners (UAWBO) will hold its ninth annual Fall Retreat, "Breakthrough '92", at the Alta Peruvian Lodge in Alta Canyon, October 2-3, 1992.
