Show The Park Record D Section B Thursday September 1 7, 1992 P Page B7 Personal service and more buying power with Park City Travel by Kathy J. McCarthy Contributing Writer Park City Travel recently moved from their Park Avenue location to 1280 Iron Horse Dr. on the corner of Iron Horse and Bonanza, and has joined the Carlson Network, a franchise-like arrangement which gives small travel agencies the buying power of a larger agency. Partners Dianne Davey and Tracy Pierce sold their six-year-old agency in Salt Lake and began a new one in Park City four years ago. "We sold that Salt Lake agency because we lived up here and wanted to work here," Davey says. The fledgling Park City agency specialized in ski packages. "Park City just didn't need another regular travel agency back then," says Davey, "so we specialized in ski packages.. .Now we feel like there's room for more with Park City growing." So Park City Travel is offering more. Davey, Pierce and new partner, Carolyn Russon, now run a full-service travel agency, including cruises, package tours, corporate travel, international travel, golf packages and, of course, ski packages. With many new business moving in plus the annual after-ski season getaway for many Parkites, Davey says "Park City has the kind of travel people we'd like to work with...We're trying to get the local commercial business in the area in addition to leisure business." The partners agree they basically joined the Carlson Network for buying power. Carlson Network is the largest travel agency in North America. Joining the network allows Park city Travel to give its customers better hotel and car rates, to match or beat any cruise price and access to many preferred suppliers who give the best prices according to partner Carolyn Russon. "Carlson makes us more competitive with larger agencies." The agency moved to the "Industrial Area" of Park City, behind Park City Glass, in July. "It's a good location because of the local commercial business in the area...once people figure out where we are," says Davey. The store front faces Bonanza although the address is Iron Horse, so it can be confusing. For an added incentive to help you to find their new location, Park City Travel is holding an open house on October 2, with two free cruises and many smaller prizes given away in drawings. "We want everyone to come in and fill out a registration form," says Davey. The agency also plans to make personal sales calls to Park City businesses in the near future. The agents you will be hearing from are Kim Losee, Juli Bertagnole, Ann Rychlik and Heidi Jackson, all Park city locals. In fact, Juli Bertagnole has lived in Park City for 21 years. Most of the agents have been with the company for three years. "The staff is very well traveled and can give first hand information on a lot of exotic trips and places. ..We're fun, but professional," says Davey. "We're all friends; we work together and help each other; there isn't that competition you see in other agencies," the staff chimes in. 'They're all characters," Davey says. "We never have a dull moment in the office." "Personalities are what keep us going during leaner times," says partner Tracy Pierce. "Without the people, there are times when we'd say, 'I don't want to do this anymore.'" Park City Travel agents give personal service and are not averse to sharing their fun-loving personalities with clients. Says one of the personalities, "We've even been known to invite clients to our parties." JSC' V i 1 r t ' f- -.
