Show The Park Record Section A Thursday, September 1 7, 1 992 B Page A3 Jordanelle contracts awarded With Jordanelle Dam now nearing completion, the first contracts for the construction of recreation facilities at the dam have been awarded as part of an agreement between the Utah State Department of Parks and Recreation and the Bureau of Reclamation. Harper Construction of Kearns, Utah, was awarded a $5,375,248 contract for mass grading and earth moving. PC Exploration of Centerville was awarded a $52,280 contract for drilling a test water well for development of a culinary water supply. Cal Wadsworth Construction of Salt Lake City was awarded a $1,017,418 contract for the construction of a nature center, restrooms, group pavilions, fish cleaning station, and entrance or fee station at Rockcliff Recreation Area on the Provo river. Jordanelle Dam, located 6 miles north of Heber City, is an integral part of the Bonneville Unit of the Central Utah Project. It will provide municipal and industrial water for Utah and Salt Lake counties. Recreation facilities "were designed into the project from the very beginning, and public meetings held while the dam was in the planning stages, indicated that recreation would be one of the main attractions of the dam and reservoir. The proposed facilities will make the area a popular spot for camping, picnicking, fishing, boating, waterskiing, windsurfing, swimming and hiking. The agreement between Reclamation and the Utah State Department of Parks and Recreation provides for the construction of these recreation facilities at Jordanelle Dam. The facilities will be managed for Reclamation by the Utah State Department of Parks and Recreation. It is expected that 475,000 visitors will visit the area each year, amounting to revenues of over $2-million in direct and indirect benefits to both the state and Federal Governments. The dam is now nearly 90 percent complete, and should be finished in July 1993. Filling is expected to begin shortly thereafter. Police catch renegade rollerblader Whoa, dude, weird....9-9-92 at 9 p.m. While patrolling the area around the Carl Winters school at 9 p.m. Sept. 9, one observant officer spied the keys to a Chevy pickup in its ignition. He or she took the keys, made contact with the owner of the truck and told her to pick them up at the Marsac Building. A 40-year-old Park City man was arrested in Deer Valley. Sept 10 at 12:05 a.m. for driving under the influence of alcohol. Residents of Quarry Mountain called the police Sept. 10 at 9:29 a.m. to complain that someone was stealing rocks from the mountainside. Police called City Engineer Eric DeHaan, to find out exactly who owns said stones. The city, he answered, but said the rock ripper-offers were nothing to worry about-they've been at it for hundreds of years. (Imagine how long it must take them to build a fireplace at that rate?) A concerned citizen reportedly found a man's briefcase Sept. 1 1 at 1 1 a.m. in the yard of her home on American Tourister, I mean, Saddler Drive. (But did it have wheels?) She was taken to the clinic, evaluated and released. The ambulance responded to an accident on Park Avenue near the Park Station Hotel Sept. 10, where a 24-year-old male had injured his head and face in a bicycling accident.
