Kelli is also a student teacher at a private dance studio and was first attendant in the Miss Outstanding Teen Pageant. She is also a three-time donator to Locks of Love. Brett Nielson - Visual Arts Brett Gregory Nielson, son of Robert Rob-ert William and Madeleine Schirner Nielson, has designed his way to the position of Uintah's Visual Arts Sterling Ster-ling Scholar. He lives in Vernal and has a GPA of 3.552. Brett has exhibited two of his paintings in the Springville Art Show. He is a third place Western States winner for a poster he made for the AAA Poster Contest. Brett is a member of the track team and of FBLA. This year he has served as FBLA community com-munity service vice president and was last year's chapter historian. Brett has also earned the rank of an Eagle Scout. David Sam - Music David Ryan Sam, son of Daniel Scott and Penny Ballard Sam, has composed his way into being Uintah's Music Sterling Scholar. He is from Vernal and has a 3.941 GPA. Ryan has received the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medallions for Academic Excellence earning 4.0 recognition on two of them. He was a winner at the Mini-Artist competition at Utah State University's Piano Festival Festi-val and has received 12 superior ratings and three cash awards at National Federation Junior Festivals. Ryan is actively involved in sharing his musical talents with the community. He has participated in two different concerts where the proceeds went toward scholarships. schol-arships. Ryan has also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Jessica Wallis - Foreign Language Jessica Wallis, daughter of Tammy Lowry Wallis and the late Steven Rich ard Wallis, will represent Uintah High School as the Foreign Language Sterling Scholar. She is from Vernal and has a 3.994 GPA. Jessica has earned the Bronze, Silver and Gold Medallions for Academic Excellence. She is a Latin I National Gold Medalist and has won an award for Outstanding Accomplishment Accomplish-ment in Classical Studies from the Classical Association of the Middle West and South. Derrick White - Science Derrick James White, son of Dr. James Derrick and Annalise Redd White, is Uintah High School's Science Sterling Scholar. Derrick lives in Vernal and has a GPA of 3.722. Derrick has been a member of the first place team at the Snow College Math Contest for the past two years and he has had the highest individual score both years. He was also a member of Uintah High School's winning Science Bowl team and has a 35 on the ACT. Continued from page 24 Tabiona High School Sterling Scholars community with any computer needs. His personal interests include golf, playstation, anything on computers, and science. Bowdy loves science. He plans to get certified in A as soon as he finishes high school next month. He will use that to get a part-time job while he attends technical school for CISCO. Cash D. Gines - Mathematics Cash D. Gines, son of Joel T. and Heidi Gines, has been selected to represent Tabiona High School as the Mathematics Sterling Scholar. His GPA is 3.615 and he is ranked fourth in his class. He is currently the student body president. This year Cash was selected as Tabiona's Homecoming King. Cash takes advantage of as many concurrent enrollment classes as he can. He will be graduating from Utah State University this April with his associate degree in 28 pre-science. His interest in the mathematics math-ematics field has led him to attend USU in Logan in the fall where he will be studying mathematical education. Two of those years he has been elected by Utah's members as a state officer. Kody plans to go to Southern Utah University where he plans to get his bachelor's degree in business management and graphic design. Zack Bertola - Mathematics Zack Bertola, son of Kane and Luella Bertola, has been selected to represent Duchesne High School as the Mathematics Math-ematics Sterling Scholar. His GPA is 3.93 and he is ranked fourth in his class. He has been a member of the football, basketball, and track teams for four years. Zack is also a member of the National Honor Society. He plans to attend college and pursue a degree in the medical field. . Chelsea Herrera - English Chelsea Herrera, daughter of Marty and Traci Herrera, is Duchesne High School's English Sterling Scholar. She has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked first in her class. She currently serves as the student stu-dent body president and is a member of Future Business Leaders of America, as well as the National Honor Society. Chelsea has been on the varsity basketball, bas-ketball, volleyball, Softball, and track teams for four years. She attends Utah State University as a concurrent enrollment enroll-ment student and is working to become a certified nursing assistant at Uintah Basin Applied Technology College. This past summer Chelsea attended the Utah Rural Electric Association leadership conference and Utah Business Busi-ness Week. She has been accepted to and will attend Southern Utah University Univer-sity in Cedar City next year where she plans to work toward her bachelor's degree in nursing and science. Chelsea Chel-sea wants to be a registered nurse and someday a doctor. Sam Hoopes - Family and Consumer Consum-er Sciences Sam Hoopes, son of Robert Lyn and Karri Taylor Hoopes will be representing represent-ing Duchesne High School as the Family and Consumer Sciences Sterling Ster-ling Scholar. Sam is currently ranked sixth in his class with a 3.8 GPA. He has been very successful as a scholar athlete for four years with 10 All-State awards. He has also been effective in Family Community Career Leaders of America in multiple service projects as a leader or participant. He enjoys speaking with children as a role model to help them understand the difficulties difficul-ties of drugs, the need for ATV safety, helping the needy, and other things that will improve their lives. Sam is a member of the National Honor Society and enjoys learning. He is currently a concurrent enrollment student and has earned over 12 credits. Sam loves to do well in everything he does. He would like to graduate from a university to become a pharmacist. Rebecca Ivie - Music Rebecca Elizabeth Ivie, daughter of Jim and Talana Ivie, will represent Duchesne High School as the Music Sterling Scholar. Rebecca maintains a 4.0 cumulative GPA and is ranked first in her senior class. She has been a member of the drama team at Duchesne Duch-esne High School for three years and has participated in Future Business Leaders of America for two. In 2004, Rebecca also participated on the state championship Drill Team. Rebecca is a member of the National Honor Society Soci-ety and is currently serving as senior class vice president. Rebecca takes concurrent enrollment classes from Utah State University and will have 19 college credits at graduation. During the summer of 2006, Rebecca attended Utah Girls' State, Utah RuraLElectric Association Youth Conference, and Utah Business Week. A music student for 1 1 years, Rebecca loves to play the piano and violin, sing, and teach. She hopes to go to Snow College as a music major and eventually to either teach music as a college professor or become a music therapy specialist. Valerie Moon - Dance Valerie C. Moon, daughter of Ken and Nancy Moon, has been selected to represent Duchesne High School as the Dance Sterling Scholar. Her GPA is 3.75 and she is ranked eighth in her class.
