Show A year of growth and change The pages of this special section are filled with stories of the strides made this year in education in the Uintah Basin. Whether it's the groundbreaking of the new Uintah Basin Applied Technology College and Utah State University Uintah Basin building in Vernal or the successes suc-cesses of individual students at each of the local high schools, academic growth is everywhere. Inside, we pay tribute to the high school seniors who have been honored hon-ored as Sterling Scholars in Duchesne and Uintah counties. To become a Sterling Scholar, students compile a detailed portfolio which demonstrates dem-onstrates excellence in scholarship, leadership, and citizenship. The program is sponsored by the Deseret Morning News and KSL. Again this year, our region's institutions of higher learning have continued to improve on their educational offerings. In 2006, state lawmakers earmarked almost $10 million for the construction of the Uintah Basin Applied Technology College and Utah State University Uintah Basin building. A groundbreaking for the new 74,000 square-foot square-foot facility was held recently and the project is expected to be finished in July 2008. , But this section isn't just about the buildings where learning happens. hap-pens.
