Show Vernal Express VednesdaAgrj Fuel pumps Gene Bohman has been check ing fuel dispenser accuracy for some 20 years now and he stated that the pumps are getting more and more accurate. Especially with the newer digital controlled pumps now being installed. Bohman first starts by making mak-ing sure the hose is full. He then proceeds to pump five gallons of gas into a measuring can with finite measurement lines in the neck to check for the accuracy of the gallons being pumped versus what is stated in the window. By law, a pump can be off only 6 cubic inches in five gallons. Bohman explained that there are 230 cubic inches in a gallon and being off one cubic inch is the same as being off 14 thousandths of a gallon. "These pumps have electronic calculated measurements and they are not off very much," said Bohman. In fact, Bohman explained that when they are off, they are mostly off in the favor of the customer because the measurement measure-ment takes place in a chamber that increases in size with usage, us-age, which gives the error to the customer. Bohman is required by his company to zero out each pump when he checks them. He will pump five gallons and make adjustments ad-justments to the electronic board and then repeat the process until the pumping process is exact. When asked if he sees a trend or problem of pumps being off, he stated that he has not seen any problems. "We do get calls when customers custom-ers complain to the owners that their car only has a 16 gallons tank and they just pumped 17 gallons into it," Bohman stated. "The owners are required by law to act on these problems and we come out and verify the pumper. pump-er. " ing.
