Show Amadeus' is great viewing on video BY KEVIN CUMMINGS As a rule, historical dramas tend to be very good or very bad. Fortunately, For-tunately, "Amadeus" falls into the former category. "Amadeus" was directed by Milos Forman and stars Tom Hulce and F. Murray Abraham. It tells the story of the conflict between the brilliant composer Mozart and the moderately talented Salieri. divine. Salieri feels anger at God for choosing someone like Mozart for such a gift. Salieri's anger at God develops into hatred, and he begins to wage a subtle war against Mozart. "Amadeus" is a complex and deeply moving film. In 1984 when it was released, it won 13 Oscars, including a Best Actor award for Abraham and a Best Director award for Forman. These and the many international in-ternational awards it won were well deserved. The plot is engaging; the scenery is both breathtaking and stunningly accurate; and the performances are inspired. Most importantly the music (written by Mozart, conducted con-ducted by Neville Marriner, and performed by the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields) is worth the price of rental alone. The film carries a PG rating and contains scenes and situations which may not be appropriate for younger family members. However, it is a film that you'll want to rewind re-wind again and again. review Salieri (played by Abraham) is the self-important court composer to Emperor Joseph II of Austria. He believes that he has a God-given gift for composition. Although he does indeed have a gift, it is but a small one and he is doomed to mediocrity.
