Show Squads to compete atUofU Jacksonville, Fla. scheduled for March 22-24,1991. The public is invited to attend competition. The cost is $1 for the individual competition and $3 for team. All proceeds go to the U of U Cheerleader Scholarship Fund. By G.BRETT HART Davis County junior and senior high school cheerleading squads are warming up for this weekend's University of Utah cheerleading state championships. High school teams already scheduled to compete include Layton, Viewmont and Bountiful cheerleading squads. South Davis, Bountiful and Millcreek junior high teams have also registered to compete. com-pete. Individual competition is slated to begin Friday at 6:30 p.m. in room E101 of the U of U campus, while team competition will start Satur day at 11 a.m. in the Huntsman Center. Individual competitors will be judged on skills which include tumbling, dance, cheer and sideline technique. Last year's winner in the individual in-dividual competition was Bountiful High's Julie Barnett, who went on to place fifth in the Cheerleaders of America National Championship in Jacksonville, Fla. Team competition will match team abilities in partner stunts, pyramids, team tumbling, dance, cheer and sideline technique. Song leaders will compete in a separate category demonstrating dance and choreography. This year's winners will also advance ad-vance to national competition in |
